LeWebParis 09, with a woman's eyes

Another interesting gathering of great speakers and participants, finished.

The organization was fine, the heat was on, the wifi was on, the food was fine (not for Mediterranean people), but most interesting was the gourmet coffee Nespresso!

As a Girl Geek Dinner organizer, and a woman too, I will give the female numbers of the event.

There were 86 Male speakers and 7 Female speakers!
There were 2.150 male participants and 377 female participants!
…and when Loic said that this year we have many women speakers, I believe that he was waiting to have none!

I don’t expect much for this from Loic, because he is a man, but I surely haven’t see yet the work of Geraldine, as a result for the female support.

The funny thing is the all female speakers had inspirational speeches, despite the men who were all of them in a box, and couldn’t get out of it!

Danah Boyd, researcher at Microsoft Research New England.
She had very interesting analysis in the behavior of people who use social media. She said that people are ignoring bad stories of other people (like people who suffer for a reason) even if they are online friends. They don’t support, they have no actions of making things better for them.

Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah (beautiful as warm light with a generous physical smile) had a very inspired speech. She asked us how social media can make things better for people who suffer from diseases, poverty or no education.
She said she is running a cause for education to children.
She said that “digital people” must find a way to convert the online discussion to offline action and help people who need help.
She said that “digital people” (bloggers, developers etc.) must press governments to establish laws which will make life better for people who suffer. She
She believes that education of children is a very serious case, and it is the only way to create wealthy and human communities in earth. She invited us to support her cause and send her via twitter or e-mail ideas for this.
She has established and support many causes and organizations, focus in education to children (Madrasati , madrasati.jo, [which means “my school” in Arabic, Queen Rania Teachers’ Academy [QRTA], The Children’s Museum of Jordan [cmj.jo], Global Campaign for Education [GCE], UN Girls’ Education Initiative [UNGEI] etc.

Jennifer Corriero, Co-Founder and Executive Director, TakingITGlobal is the other woman I liked.
"TakingITGlobal.org, tigweb.org, is the social network that connects you to the global issues that affect us all."
Very energetic, she talked about all the new projects they run all over the world.

And because we have to be fair, the speech of Tony Hsieh, CEO Zappos.com, was one which many people liked.

Here you will find all the photos I took. In these pictures you will find many of the slides of the speakers, which most of them are very valuable.

Meeting point for ICT Women in Europe

European Directory and ICT
"Getting more girls and women into the technology sector is today not only a gender equality issue but an economic necessity!

The European Directory is a new ecospace for all stakeholders (public, private, academia, NGOs, networks, clusters, projects and individual users) interested in measurably and significantly increasing the number of girls and women in the knowledge based economy in general and in ICT in specific.

The EUD is based on an innovative network portal and collaboration-ware with the basic aim to promote girls' and women’s orientation towards and presence and participation in ICT and related sectors.

The aim of the European Directory is to put an end to fragmentation in the field of women and technology, to prevent replications and create a common European knowledge-base and a platform for interaction between the registered stakeholders."
